SHARING THE TRAIL The Seven Summits Ride - Sept 19, 2007 November 26th, 2007 ROUND-UP OF EVENTS FOR 2007 *We started out in April with our annual poker ride south along the West side of the Columbia River south of Trail to the old Fort Shepherd Site. Everyone enjoyed sausages and hotdogs around the campfire at lunch. This is a great ride along the sandy benches to get the horses started for the season. *A bunch of us attended RV2007 in Barriere again this year and it was great as usual! The 4 of us that were lucky enough to to be part of the 3-day pack trip into RV really enjoyed it. Thanks to Connie and Butch it was really well organized as was the whole RV thanks to Jonathon. *September 19th we had an organised ride up in the high country along the orth half of the Seven Summits Trail north-west of Rossland. There were 12 riders and we ran into 4 inches of snow along these alpine ridges. A little slippery in spots but pretty good most of the way. We all had a great day and you get fantastic views of the Columbia Valley and its towns from up there. *We had our next organised ride on September 29th starting at Richie's place in the Black Jack Ski Area and heading north on the ski trails until you hit the Neptune Creek Trails heading down to the Harding Ranch in Oasis. There were 23 riders who took part and it was a nice sunny day and was especially beautiful riding through the birch forests, coming into the lower levels to the Harding's place. The birches were starting to get their fall colours. The day ended with the Hardings putting on a fantastic BBQ with all the trimmings. *The last organised ride of the season was along the newest section of the Trans Canada Trail on the east side of the Columbia River between Castlegar and Trail. Tom Marrello and Morgan Gladdish led a group heading south from Castlegar and Shauntelle Harding led a group heading north from Trail. They all met halfway and enjoyed lunch around the campfire before returning to their rigs. We plan to do some work on this trail and also the Seven Summits Trail next year as there are a few spots that need improving to make it easier for the horses. We also need to get out on the Dewdney Trail nest year as we haven't done anything on it for a couple of years now. *Ric Filmore and Graham Jones are planning some social get-togethers for next year.
