The Northwest Chapter of Back Country Horsemen BC is based in the the beautiful Bulkley Valley in northwest BC. The chapter began in 1999 and has a diverse group of members living between the Kispiox Valley and Fraser Lake and the beautiful Southside area. We have traditionally held monthly meetings between September and May in Smithers where we often have a guest presentation, plan for upcoming rides, work bees and events and enjoy some time to catch up with good friends. Our riding season begins in early May with Carl’s Spring Ride & Dinner and continues through until our annual Memorial Ride and potluck on the Thanksgiving weekend. Our annual Solstice Ride and potluck at the Shorter Ranch is always a highlight. We have easy access to many incredible mountain areas such as Silver King Basin and Lyon Creek trail in the Babine Mountains, Hunter Basin, Telkwa Pass, Dome Mountain and Hungry Hill. Over the past three years our chapter has developed our much loved Coalmine Horse Camp on Goathorn Creek just outside of Telkwa. We have built a clubhouse, covered cooking and meeting area, an arena, equipment lockup, obstacle course and several campsites with corrals, firepits and water. Many of our rides are held on the extensive network of riding trails that the club has brushed out around the camp. We are very proud to have been awarded Back Country Horsemen BC’s Outstanding Project Award for Coalmine Camp. We encourage BCH members from around the province to come and enjoy our facility and hospitality!
