Depending on your skillset and desired amenities, BC has unlimited opportunities to camp and ride trails throughout our Province. Through the dedication of many Chapters and thousands of volunteer hours, many of our projects have created great “camp and ride destinations”. These are developed generally through multi-year Partnership Agreements of one form or another, primarily with BC Parks or Rec Sites & Trails BC (RSTBC).
Below you’ll find brief introductions to these destinations, along with links to the specific sites on Horse Council of BC’s “Online Trail Database” for more detailed information. We greatly appreciate the support and effort HCBC puts forth in the development and maintainenance of this database for recreational riders.

North Western BC
COALMINE CAMP – LOCATED NEAR TELKWA
Back Country Horsemen – Northwest Chapter, in agreement with Telkwa Mining Inc., has created this amazing equestrian camp with so much to do. There’s a Mountain Trail course, arena, picnic shelter, spacious corrals and access to the trail network outside the camp. Cariboo, Chilcotin, Central and North East BC
BELL MOUNTAIN TRAILS & MACINTOSH EQUESTRIAN CAMP – LOCATED NEAR MCBRIDE
In 2021, the Robson Valley Chapter secured $246,009 in funding through the Government of BC Destination Development Program and Horse Council BC—the largest grant of its kind for the organization. In partnership with Recreation Sites and Trails BC and the community of McBride, they developed a rustic equine campground at MacIntosh Falls on Bell Mountain. Robson Valley Chapter also maintains over 42 kms of trails surrounding the camp.

Fraser Valley BC
GOLDEN EARS – WOODLANDS GROUP CAMP – LOCATED NEAR MAPLE RIDGE
In 2024 Aldergrove Chapter in Partnership with BC Parks obtained grants from Horse Council BC and BCHBC to enhance the camp facility for equestrians at the Woodlands Group site in Golden Ears Provincial Park. High lining posts and 3 sets of double corrals were installed. Reservations can be booked through the BC Parks booking site!

HEADWATERS CORRAL CAMPSITE – E.C. MANNING PARK
EC Manning Provincial Park not only has numerous trails to ride throughout the Park but includes the Headwaters Corral campsite behind the Manning Park Resort Lodge. In 2011 the Yarrow Chapter spearheaded the Headwaters EQ camp and has seen improvements over the years with perimeter fencing and new corrals.
Back Country Horsemen – Yarrow & Aldergrove Chapters and several others have assisted BC Parks in maintaining the trails through a long term Partnership Agreement.

TULAMEEN CABIN & HISTORIC DEWDNEY TRAIL – MANNING PARK
The Tulameen Cabin is located 15 kms up the Dewdney Trail on a beautiful meadow looking at Snass Mtn. The cabin is a BC Parks Ranger Station and is available for BCHBC members on a booking system by contacting the Aldergrove Chapter. Users are expected to do some work on trails or the camp area while there. There are several trail networks around the Cabin. Yarrow Chapter has a long term Partnership Agreement with BC Parks with the support of the Aldergrove Chapter.
The Tulameen Cabin is not a record in the HCBC database.

Thompson Okanagan BC
FISHTRAP – LOCATED NEAR BARRIER – CAMPSITE & TRAIL NETWORK
Fishtrap Recreation Campsite was developed in 2009–2010 by the Back Country Horsemen – North Thompson Chapter, inspired by rebuilding efforts after the 2003 wildfires. Today, the site continues to evolve, featuring a mountain trail course, a large fenced area for practicing skills, and access to an extensive trail system. N Thompson Through a partnership with Recreation Sites & Trails BC, the N Thompson Chapter maintains the camp and the Skull Mountain trail network which offers over 125 km of trails starting right from the Fishtrap campsite.

KANE VALLEY TRAILS AND CAMPSITE – LOCATED NEAR MERRITT
The Harmon Lake Recreation equestrian campsite in the Kane Valley boasts 13 sites and 22 large corrals. These were built in 2020 through a Partnership Agreement with Rec Sites & Trails and BCHBC. Okanagan Chapter has renewed this partnership until 2035. Easy access to the 50 kms of trails which are a part of the Nicola Nordic Ski Club Cross Country Ski system.

LARCH HILLS – SALMON ARM – CAMPSITE & TRAIL NETWORK
Larch Hills is a network of cross-country ski trails that are popular riding trails with cooler, shady trails in the hot summer. Every spring Shuswap Chapter sets up 12 corrals for camping and takes them down before the ski season starts. The site is managed by a caretaker for the Larch Hills Nordic Ski Club. Reservations are recommended.

LUNDBOM CAMP – MERRITT – CAMPSITE & TRAIL NETWORK
Multiple BCHBC Chapters from the Okanagan and Fraser Valley have been involved in the development of the equestrian camp at Lundbom Lake. This popular camp saw an expansion of corrals to a total of 28 in 2015 with multiple chapters volunteering on this project. Okanagan Chapter spearheads projects through their Partnership Agreement with RSTBC. There is an extensive mapped trail network through the surrounding grasslands.

SKIMIKIN – LOCATED NEAR SALMON ARM – CAMPSITE & TRAIL NETWORK
The equestrian camping at Skimikin was built in the late 1990’s by Shuswap Chapter. Through a Partnership Agreement with Rec Sites & Trails Shuswap Chapter maintains all of the non-motorized and some of the shared trail network. The Chapter received an $86,0000 grant from the BC Gov’t Destination Development Fund and Horse Council BC to build a new 3.7 km purpose built non-motorized trail in 2023/24.

TRAPPING CREEK – LOCATED NEAR BEAVERDALE – 2 CAMPSITES & TRAIL NETWORK
Trapping Creek has two equestrian campsites: Little Trapping Creek and Meadow Camps were established in 2015/16 by BCH – Okanagan Chapter. The extensive trail network is accessible from both campsites consisting of more than 50 kms of intersecting trails, all looping back to camps. Okanagan Chapter maintains the camping sites and trails through a long term Partnership Agreement with Rec Sites & Trails BC.

TUNKWA PROVINCIAL PARK / LEIGHTON LAKE – NEAR LOGAN LAKE –
2 CAMPSITES & TRAIL NETWORK
Kamloops Chapter members worked with BC Parks prior to 2016 and built the Leighton Lake corrals and then in 2016 the Tunkwa corrals were built. The 2021 fire did some damage to the Leighton corrals, Shuswap and Kamloops chapters restored the corrals with support from BC Parks.
Shuswap and Kamloops chapters are currently working on a Partnership Agreement with BC Parks to maintain the Park trails and improve signage.

WELLS GRAY PROVINCIAL PARK – CLEARWATER – TRAIL NETWORK
The N Thompson Chapter maintains approximately 100+ kms of equestrian/hiking trails through a Partnership Agreement with BC Parks from the Clearwater entrance into the Park. There is a new map for the EQ trails in Avenza as well under Horse Council Trails Database. The campground with corrals is operated by the Wells Gray RV & Golf Resort.

Vancouver Island BC
MEMEKAY / PINE MARTEN / BREWSTER CAMPS – NEAR CAMPBELL RIVER – 3 CAMPSITES ALONG THE SALMON BREWSTER TRAIL CORRIDOR
Memekay, Pine Marten & Brewster camps were built in 2012/13 by the N Vancouver Island Chapter with the support of Alberni, South & Central Vcr Isl & Powell River Chapter members. NVI has entered into their second ten year Partnership Agreement (2034) with Rec sites & Trails to maintain & operate these campsites and maintain the 43 km long Salmon Brewster Trail Corridor connecting the 3 camps. NVI Chapter has been successful in obtaining funding through grants from Horse Council, Rural Community Development Grant and in 2024 the largest grant ever by a BCHBC Chapter $495,778 from the Rural Economic Diversification & Infrastructure Program for the Rehabilitation Project of the Salmon Brewster Corridor.

Salmon Brewster Trail Corridor –
SPRUSTON – LOCATED NEAR NANAIMO – CAMPSITE & TRAIL NETWORK
BCH – Central Vancouver Island Chapter built and maintains the Spruston Rec Site and McKay Lake Forest Trail network. This is a staging and camping site to access the 25 kms of crown land trails and the Trans Canada Trail. There is a locked gate into the site so please contact BCHBC – Central Vancouver Island for access.
