BRIAN HARDERPRESIDENT
Brian has been a BCHBC member for over twenty five years. His love of riding started when he was a kid going on summer holidays. It has continued through his adult life and with his partner Viv. It started with one horse, then two and now five equines. When Brian started riding and Hunting in the back country he soon found the need for pack animals. First, he started with an extra horse to pack, but once a mule named Pete came into his life it was pack mules forever.
Brian enjoys clearing trails, working with other people and groups protecting and expanding our right to ride in both the front and the backcountry.
But the thing he enjoys the most is when new people experience their first back country pack trip and get hooked.

Ken has been a BCHBC member for over ten years and previously served six years as Chair of the Alberni Valley Chapter. A retired Registered Professional Forester, he worked 35 years with the BC Ministry of Forests in technical and management roles across the province. Ken continues to serve the Toquaht Nation on several boards and advisory committees and is an elected director of the BC Outdoor Recreation Council.
He and his wife, Lori Kerr, live on a small acreage in the Alberni Valley, where they enjoy time with their horses, gardening, hiking, and visiting their three sons and three granddaughters.

Rose was born & raised on the family dairy farm in the lower mainland and managed the herd for 35 years. She has served on many boards as Chair, director, secretary or treasurer with HCBC, Outdoor Recreation, BCHBC & various agricultural associations.
Horses have always been a large part of Rose’s life. She was a Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) Wilderness Guide Instructor as well as CHA English/Western Level 2 Instructor. She co-owned a business that taught trail riding and camping skills.
Currently residing in Salmon Arm, Rose still enjoys trail riding and packing, the sport of Mountain Trail Horse and continues to volunteer through the BCHBC for many trail access and preservation projects with BC Parks and Recreation Sites and Trails.
Karen was born and raised in Liverpool, England, and came to BC, Canada in 1990. She rode and worked at a riding stables in the UK, but was never fortunate enough own a horse of her own.
She settled in Abbotsford and within 5 years became a horse owner! A dream come true!
She had always enjoyed trail riding, but didn’t have the opportunity to meet many like minded people. Almost 27 years after moving here, she found out about BCHBC from Rose Schroeder and has really embraced what the group stands for.
Karen has embraced what the backcountry horsemen of BC stands for and looks forward to making memories and meeting others who share the same passion for getting out on horses in nature.
Eric Becker grew up on a ranch in Alberta, Canada, with horses heavily embedded in his life from the start. His life with horses included work, recreation and transportation. Eric even rode horses to school until grade four. As he got older, Eric was involved in chariots and chuckwagon races throughout his late teens. After taking a 14-year hiatus from horses, Eric moved to the Bulkley Valley and raised his family with horses as the cornerstone. Eric joined BCHBC in 1999 and has been active at the chapter level ever since. He has been involved in the planning and development of a local trailhead camping area called Coalmine Camp.
Eric’s focus at the provincial level is to attempt to limit the impact on chapters and members resulting from the required changes to the organization.

Claudia started her life with horses in her 40’s. Never too late to learn to ride, right! She volunteered at Circle F horse rescue in Abbotsford and soon realized she needed her own horse. Her daughter also fell in love with horses and before they knew it, they had 5! Soon she bought property in Yarrow and heard about the Yarrow chapter of Back Country Horsemen of BC. She thought she would listen in on a meeting and now is the chair of the chapter and on the provincial executive. Her passion is the backcountry and has started packing her own horse.
JUANITA GIBNEY is from Summerland, BC and has been a member of Back Country Horsemen since 2009. She was the Logowear storekeeper from 2011 to 2017, and earned the BCHBC Provincial volunteer of the year in 2018.
Currently serving as a Provincial Vice President, Juanita was also instrumental in working with RSTBC to create and register the Trapping Creek Horse Trail Network and camps in 2012. For the past several years Juanita has been enjoying the trails on her mules in Arizona.

Verna is currently an active member with Prince George Omineca Chapter. Having served 4 years as VP on the Provincial executive, as well as working with the Communications Committee on developing the new website, she was well equipped to step into the role of Membership Coordinator. She has enjoyed riding since a young teen in a variety of disciplines from dressage to team penning, and always trails!
