The Pemberton Valley Chapter of Back Country Horsemen BC is a small but busy group within BCHBC that is focused primarily on restoring and preserving old horse trails that crisscross the mountains flanking the little village of Pemberton.
Progress has been slow as there has been a regional restructuring of trails approvals that the chapter was able to participate in through their liaisons on the Board of Directors of the Pemberton Valley Trails Association.
Now that the Trails Master Plan has been created and approved by all government and indigenous stakeholders, we are in a position to proceed with reclaiming and maintaining local horse trails.
We enjoyed a number of social rides and communal dinners in the summer of 2019 and again participated in Pemberton’s annual Canada Day parade. However, the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic has presented a significant number of obstacles to the social aspects of the club.
Determined members were able to arrange two socially distanced equine first aid clinics, as well as a trailering skills clinic, an equine foot care clinic and two packing clinics that were very much enjoyed and appreciated by the membership.
We have big plans for 2021 to complete interrupted trail projects, to present virtual fundraising events, and to improve the skill sets of our membership that will culminate in an overnight camping trip into one of BC’s magnificent wild spaces.
Sincere best wishes to the members of the BCHBC – may 2021 be a happy and prosperous year for us all!
